Packing Tips

Care should be taken to pack properly to insure the safety of your belongings. You can save a lot of money by packing your own household goods.

  • Use strong containers, in good condition, that can be sealed with strapping tape.  These can be arranged through your grocer before their delivery days or purchased from moving companies..
  • Do not overfill a box, 40 to 50 pounds should be the maximum.
  • To keep things from shifting en route, fill empty spaces with crumpled up newspapers or bubble wrap or other packing material.
  • Stack books on end in smaller boxes as they are quite heavy.
  • Label each box immediately after packing it .This helps movers to put boxes in the right rooms and lets you know which ones to unpack first.
  • Empty all drawers and remove them or tape them shut.
  • Do not pack valuables. Carry them with you. Items such as jewelry, checks, securities etc.
  • Allow plenty of time for packing, it takes longer than you think. Be organized, it will save time in the long run!
  • Donate unwanted items to charity, it may be tax deductible, get a receipt.
  • Go back through the house when you are finished and check all drawers and closets for things you accidentally left behind.
